Description
The LM393 Light Detection Sensor Module combines a photoresistor (LDR) with an LM393 comparator to provide both analog and digital light outputs, with adjustable sensitivity for ambient light detection and microcontroller interfacing.
Module Description
The LM393 module is designed to detect ambient light intensity using a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR). The resistance of the LDR decreases with increasing light intensity and increases in darkness. The module uses the LM393 voltage comparator to convert analog LDR signals into a digital HIGH/LOW output based on a reference threshold set by a potentiometer
Key Features
- Dual outputs: Analog output (AO) for continuous light measurement and Digital output (DO) for threshold-based logic detection.
- Adjustable light detection threshold via onboard potentiometer.
- Operating voltage: 3.3V – 5V DC.
- Digital output is TTL compatible and can drive microcontrollers or relay modules directly.
- Operating temperature range: −20°C to +70°C.
- Fast response time depending on LDR characteristics.
- Compact PCB design for integration in electronics projects.
Module Internal Circuit
- LDR: forms a voltage divider with a resistor to generate analog voltage proportional to light intensity.
- LM393 comparator: compares the LDR voltage to the adjustable reference voltage.
- Potentiometer: allows setting of the digital threshold output.
- Indicator LED: shows the digital output state for easy calibration.
Applications
- Automatic night/day lights
- Light-activated switches and relays
- Security systems with light-based triggers
- Light level monitoring for agriculture or robotics
- Educational electronics projects and microcontroller experimentation
